Style Guide - Welcome to the Jungle

Welcome to the jungle- well the tropical one. I want to talk to you about the tropical jungle trend. This is something we've been seeing in fashion, art, interior design, florals, events and so much more. Usually when something is a trend we tend to see it across various industries of the artistic world and the tropical jungle trend is no exception. You’ve probably seen this trend around somewhere, whether it be in a home or your favourite fashion magazine, you can’t miss it. The great thing about this trend is that it’s super easy to implement into your life and can be done in a minimalistic way or a straight up in your face BOLD way. I’ll show you some ways to put tropical jungle vibes into your life in fashion, home décor and your future event.

I don’t know about you but sometimes when I think tropical jungle all I can think of is Sir Tommy Bahama. As much as I love the dad on the Pebble Beach golf course circa 96’, I want to talk catwalk fashion. The tropical jungle trend really became a ‘thing’ on the fashion scene in 00’ when Versace made that iconic green dress for queen JLo (thank you Donatella) and was brought back to life once again by the fashion power house in S/S20. But the trend was such a hit it has come to join us once again in 2021 in a bigger and better way. The fashion world has brought this look not only into spring/summer but in fall/winter as well. My current favourite is the Gucci x North Face collaboration that showcases winter can be colourful and fun too! I live for a midi dress in a tropical floral print or even a top pant matchy matchy combo. I know that can be terrifying to some and I get it, so if you’re not fully committed to the colourful trend but would still like to add some bold prints to your wardrobe I suggest adding a bag or neck scarf to a more basic look to start.

Do you like the topical jungle trend for your home or event but aren’t ready to commit to green leaf wall paper from floor to ceiling a la Beverly Hills Hotel (the OG for bringing this trend into the interior design game in 1912)? That’s okay- neither are we (maybe one day). But if you’d like a hint of that tropical jungle in your everyday life or your next function here are some ways to implement the trend.

Adding some pillows or a throw to your couch or bed can be a great and affordable way to achieve this look inside your home. Adding colourful large tropical floral/leafy print dish wear or woody/bamboo style dish wear is a gorgeous way to make your table unique. Accent furniture with a bamboo colour or style wood is another way to make the tropical jungle a part of your home in a more muted way. Artwork inspired by the theme (flamingos are always a go to for us) and/or a faux oversized leafy plant can also be a fun way to change things up and brighten up a space. Adding linens and florals inspired by the theme are also a beautiful way of bringing that tropical jungle look to life. It can be as simple as an affordable and fun DIY project where you find prints you like online and frame them yourself.

The key to achieving this look in anything you’re making it apart of is to stick with the large oversized in your face prints and the bold colours that go along with them. Remember there is nothing subtle about the tropical jungle but that’s the whole fun in it.
