I think it’s truly important for any brand/company to engage authentically with their audience and clients and I think in order to do so it is equally, if not more, important for that brand to be authentic, genuine and vulnerable. People aren’t stupid. They can cut through the noise and bulls%$t.
Hopefully with this blog, you’ll get to know a little bit more about me, my brand that I started two years ago, my family, my inspirations (both personally and professionally). Hopefully what is on here will resonate with you on some sort of level even if just a little tiny bit. Hopefully it’ll keep you engaged, curious and perhaps inspire you. With that here’s a little bit about me and this company I started called Addis & albert.
I am a wife and mom to my daughter Poppy who is 2 ½ and my son London who is 10 months old. It is hands down my dream job - yes, I am aware of the cheesiness but it’s the truth. Our fur baby Lala just recently passed away, making this is the first time in my life I’ve not had a dog. Over her 8 years, Lala eased my anxiety daily and for that I am forever grateful and miss her more than anything. I am the most traditional and non-traditional person you’ll ever meet; my husband calls me an enigma wrapped in a puzzle. I believe in signs from the universe - that’s how Poppy got her name. I am an open book ask me anything and I promise I’ll give you an honest answer. I am a bougie yogi who meditates daily and is a strong believer in therapy. I always, always keep an open mind and love learning new things. I have always been extremely creative and interested in the creative arts. I started singing, dancing and acting at the age of 2. I’ve always loved musical theatre, drawing, and writing (mainly comedy skits). I have a true passion for the arts, and apparently I’m funny too. I believe it’s probably just because I say all of the things people are thinking. I was part of Second City, went to school for fashion and continued my journey as a wardrobe stylist before kick starting Addis & albert.
Two years ago, shortly after having my daughter, I decided to start my own clothing line. I’ve always loved fashion, especially the luxurious kind. I am truly passionate about clothes and accessories, how they are made, the creative directors behind them and their vision (Alessandro Michele is my fave). But as much as I am passionate about fashion, I just wasn’t able to make the clothing line work. It wasn’t until I dove into the process of launching a line that I realized that making it work, at the price point and quality I wanted for my customers, was simply impossible. Domestic manufacturers charged an arm and a leg and left no room at all for even a penny of profit and overseas manufacturing required order and quantity volume that a new brand simply could not support. It was an amazing experience that I learned so much from and at the end of the day I am so glad I can say I was able to bring it to life. I’m happy I put myself out there and tried something I had always dreamed of. My husband (the sports nut he is) constantly reminds me of what Michael Jordan once said; ‘I can accept failure, but I can’t accept not trying’. It’s what brought me to the realization that I need to follow another passion of mine; events and design.
I have been decorating homes and styling events long before I made it official. It was always something I was equally passionate about from a young age. I have been designing and planning long before I even knew it was a job. But my first real go at it was about 5 years ago when a close friend decided to gut their house. He gave me all the creative freedom and put his full trust in me. I was able to pick every little detail, from room layouts to the tiniest finishes in the kitchen. It was then that I realized how passionate I was about every form of design, not only fashion but homes and events as well. I love the creative process behind envisioning something and then watching it come to life. While working in fashion, I have always had these amazing event and design projects in the works on the side. So as a true believer in signs, I had to take all of the ones the universe sent me and decided I needed to transition from a struggling clothing line who refused to compromise quality and price point, to this new chapter. Something I’m equally passionate about. So follow me along this journey where I will talk everything from events and design, hack and tips, fashion and luxury, health and beauty and the roller coaster that is being a momtrepreneur.
